New Sculpture in Stone - an experiment
In 1982, this exhebition marks an important moment in the context of the fruitful collaboration between Ar.Co and João Cutileiro and António Pedroso’s Utilpedra. The travelling exhibition starts at the Centro Cultural de S. Lourenço in Almancil (May/June) and ends at the Museu de Évora (November/December). In between these dates it is presented in Lisbon (Galeria Quadrum), in Batalha (Museu/Mosteiro da Batalha), in Oporto (Cooperativa Árvore) and in Vila Real (Fundação da Casa de Mateus). The participating artists are Brígida Arez, Graça Costa Cabral, Nelson Cardoso, Anabela Costa, José Pedro Croft, Amaral da Cunha, José Esteves, Pedro Fazenda, Maria Felizol, Manuel Gil, Vera Faria Gonçalves, Luís Neuparth, Luísa Perienes, Pedro Ramos, Manuel Rosa, António Campos Rosado, Sérgio Taborda and Rui Anahory. Inm a way, the show represents the culmination of an intense path that can be deduced from three crucial events: the internship of 7 young artists/sculptors at Lagos with João Cutileiro in 1979, the intensive course given by Cutileiro at Ar.Co in the same year and the “International Symposium of Sculpture in Stone-Évora 81”.
